When to Seek Help

Reading stories about sensitive topics can trigger strong feelings. This is normal. But there are times when you need professional support.

Seek help immediately if you:

  • Have thoughts of hurting yourself or others
  • Feel extremely overwhelmed and can't cope alone
  • Experience drastic changes in sleep, eating, or daily activities
  • Feel isolated with no one to talk to
  • Use alcohol or other substances to cope
  • Feel the story you read is too heavy and affects your daily life

There is nothing wrong with asking for help. It's a sign of strength, not weakness.

Tips for Reading Sensitive Stories

Some stories cover topics that may be heavy for some people. Here are tips to protect your emotional wellbeing:

1
Stop anytime. If a story feels too heavy, pause, take a break, or stop entirely.
2
Read content warnings. Each story with sensitive topics has a warning at the beginning.
3
Prepare yourself. Choose a comfortable time and place. Avoid reading when very tired.
4
Talk to someone. Share your feelings with a friend, family member, or someone you trust.
5
Try grounding. Breathe deeply. Notice 5 things you see, 4 you touch, 3 you hear.
6
Reflect by writing. Journaling after reading can help process feelings and thoughts.

For Parents & Educators

If you want to use Senara for children or students:

1
Preview stories first. Read the story yourself before recommending it.
2
Supervise and discuss. Accompany the child and discuss together afterward.
3
Check age labels. Each story has an age recommendation (e.g., 13+).
